The time telling functions of clocks, pocket watches, wrist watches and all other styles of time telling devices have undergone a lot of changes throughout our history. Men’s Swiss Watches in particular have seen some major transformations. Modifications to make the watch function more effectively and accurately from improving the mechanical movements to increase battery life in more recent models and in the days of old recreating the parts inside clocks to become smaller and smaller until like the clocks and watches of today they are small enough and therefore capable of fitting inside a small earring. Truly mind blowing stuff if you think about it enough.
Who do you think were the first to demand a watch that could be worn?
It was in fact Royalty dating back to the 19th century. Unlike the easy to wear watches of today the pocket watch was draped across a vest via a chain and the watch was held in a small pocket of the vest clasped tightly so the watch would not be lost by the use of a button hole in a man’s suit holding the chain and watch in its place. The vest was underneath the suit so the watch was not too noticeable.
It was customary for a gentleman, and supposedly a distinguished one at that, to place his hand genteelly into his pocket and take out the timepiece, open the case guardedly so as not to attract too much attention. Although just the fact that someone had such a watch in those days was seen as something quite extraordinary and read the time, then just as un-obtrusedly return the watch to his pocket.
These days of course we have wrist watches that are not only useful for telling the time, men can be seen wearing the ChronoSwiss fake watch or if they are wealthy enough they will possibly be wearing an original ChronoSwiss. The watches of today are a status symbol that men prefer to show than hide. In fact the more stylish or shiny the watch is the better.
